Drive the East Shore before storms — Cave Rock and Sand Harbor look wildly different under snow.
Heavenly's Nevada side (Stagecoach and Boulder base) is quieter than the California gondola. Diamond Peak is where locals bring their kids.
Six through ten
6. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe — 8,260 feet base, highest of the Tahoe resorts, best snow retention in a warm year. 7. Snowmobile tour from Zephyr Cove — 2-hour tours from $190. 8. Sleigh ride at Sand Harbor's neighbouring Camp Richardson (California side, but 25 minutes away). 9. Ice bar and casino stop at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe — a proper indoor evening. 10. SnowFest in early March — a week of parades, races and dumb costumes across the basin, mostly free.
Skips: boat tours (mostly seasonal, most operators shut November-April), and hiking Flume Trail (closed to bikes and buried under snow in a normal year).
