Where the $50 goes
Sleeping: $25 to $35 for a Motel 6, Super 8 or Ely's Prospector-adjacent budget rooms outside Vegas. In Vegas, midweek Circus Circus or Excalibur rooms drop to $28 to $45 with resort fee. Food: $12 to $15 for the day if you shop at Smith's or Raley's — bread, peanut butter, fruit, and one gas-station burrito. Coffee: gas station drip, $2. Fuel: not counted here — budget separately. This works only midweek and only if you can drive.
How to actually enjoy it
Free activities carry you. Fremont Street canopy shows, Bellagio Fountains, Ethel M Chocolate Factory tour in Henderson, Red Rock Canyon scenic drive ($20 per vehicle — split among four it's $5 each), Sand Harbor in shoulder season ($10). Sleep in Boulder City ($75 motels) instead of Vegas Strip and Uber in for a night ($22 each way). Skip: casino drinks unless you’re actively gambling (they’re free then), buffets, shows, and Ubers over $15.

Can I do the Strip for $50 a day?
Only midweek off-season (January to early February, or September). Even then, resort fees ($30 to $45) can push you over. Downtown or off-Strip is realistic.
Is camping cheaper?
Yes — BLM dispersed camping is free across most of northern Nevada, and state parks are $15 to $25 a night. If you have gear, $50 a day is easy.
