The Fremont Street Experience
The canopy stretches 5 blocks with a light show every hour after dark, live bands on three stages, and zip lines overhead ($49 to $89). The vibe is more Bourbon Street than Strip glamour — cheap drinks, buskers, chain-smoking outside every casino door. It's fun for a night. Base yourself here for 2 to 3 days if you want a $110-a-night four-star (Circa, Downtown Grand) instead of a $280 mid-Strip room. Trade-off: nothing famous is nearby without an Uber.
Fremont East and the Arts District
Walk 3 blocks east of the canopy to Fremont East — cocktail bars (Downtown Cocktail Room, Park on Fremont), Container Park with a giant fire-breathing praying mantis, and the best food downtown (Le Thai, Carson Kitchen). Ten minutes south by Uber is the Arts District along Main Street — coffee shops, galleries, breweries, and the First Friday street festival. This is where Las Vegas locals actually go out. Skip the Fremont Street costumed characters unless you enjoy being asked for tips every 30 seconds.

How do I get from the Strip to Downtown?
Deuce bus is $8 for 2 hours and takes 30 to 45 minutes. Uber is $18 to $28 in about 15 minutes. There's no rail link.
Is Downtown safe?
Fremont Street between 4th and Main is well-policed and safe. Two blocks north or west, you’re in rougher territory — use Uber after 10pm rather than walking.
